Last Thursday's Conf Call featured our guests Kayo reppin' NC & the legendary KRS-One. What a treat & this was one of our most memorable calls in 12 years. Here's what D-Tragic from 805HipHop.com had to say about that call, "It's days like this I can see how Lucky and Proud I am to be a RapAttack DJ! The call was so sick. KRS is hands down real Hip-Hop and a educator of this whole game! Everytime he speaks its as if he is addressing the whole US like Obama does. Thanks Nes for Allowing me to be a part of such an Important organization!! College Radio and Independent Hip-Hop would NOT be the same without YOU Nes! Much respect!!"...

Rap Attack caught up with NY's, DJ Eclipse from WNYU & here's what he's got going on, "Here's my Mr. Magic Tribute from this past Wednesday on The Halftime Show. I pulled out a lot of old 12"s, radio tapes, rare demos and took calls from Kool DJ Red Alert, Special K (Awesome Two), the Mighty Mitchski and Just-Ice. Some of the music sounds crispy and some sounds like it's been sitting in mud for years. None the less, I'm sure you'll enjoy it all as there are definitely some classic moments I dug up for this show. From the groups that Magic put on, to the early years of the Juice Crew, to the records he mixed/co-produced, to the battles and then ultimately to the demise of the Juice Crew, it's all in this show. R.I.P. Mr. Magic:

Rakim will release his long awaited new album The Seventh Seal on November 17, 2009. Guest artists include Busta Rhymes, Jadakiss, Maino, Tracey Horton, IQ, Styles P, and others, including Destiny Griffin, Rakim’s own daughter. The artist’s Ra Records shares the imprint in a joint venture with Tuscan Villa and SMC Recordings and is distributed through Fontana/Universal Music Group.

Since its release, the album’s lead single “Holy Are You” has won praise from critics and fans alike. USA Today states, “The God MC previews his long-awaited The Seventh Seal with a lyrically adept reminder of how he earned the name,” with Billboard proclaiming “Rakim is in top form, richly merging self-mythologizing reflections on his legacy with religious imagery.”

His first full album of new material in almost a decade, The Seventh Seal is Rakim’s contemporary observation of the Hip-Hop culture he helped define. While staying loyal to his New York roots, Rakim has created a body of work that encompasses the very best of regional, underground and mainstream styles that are reformed and delivered through his intricate lyricism and the seemingly effortless flow for which he is revered. He has enlisted a slew of production talent including Needlz, Nottz, Jake One, Nick Wiz, Ty Fiffe and more on the album’s well-rounded tracks.

The artist states, “The Seventh Seal is my own revelation…my way of taking the best of what Hip-Hop has to offer, what we as a culture and a community have to offer, putting my stamp on it and leading us forward while constantly respecting what we’ve already accomplished. When you’ve been blessed with a career like mine, you develop a deep relationship with the music, and that love is recognized by the true heads that share it with you. You’ll see us keep building as we break through each Seal…showing the best of what I can do in many forms, bringing the energy and having fun, but first I’m laying that foundation and give my longtime fans the conscious fire they expect.”

ABOUT RAKIM ALLAH:
Universally referenced as one of the Masters of the Microphone and an influence and inspiration to his peers and followers alike, Rakim first exploded onto the scene with the release of iconic Eric B. is President in 1986 with long time collaborator Eric B. The single marked a turning point in the Rap world – raising the bar for future emcees and revolutionizing the way rhymes are delivered. Rakim’s intricately, intellectual lyrics draw their force from his worldly experience, inner faith and progressive contemplation, fueled by a deep understanding of not just Hip-Hop, but also the Jazz and R&B influences that have surrounded his family since his youth. †Rakim’s recordings – including the all-time classics, Paid In Full, Follow the Leader and The 18th Letter - have sold in the multi-millions worldwide. †Billboard, Rolling Stone, MTV and a host of others consistently refer to Paid in Full as “the greatest Hip-Hop album of all time” – a claim often repeated in audience polls. The Seventh Seal marks the first album under his own imprint, Ra Records, allowing a true freedom in creative control unparalleled since his monumental first recordings.

ABOUT SMC RECORDINGS:
Established in March of 2005, SMC Recordings is home to independent music and artists. Based in San Francisco, CA, the company’s prized accomplishment is its unique philosophy of artist development, where artists are encouraged to participate with the label from inception through maintenance of their career. This innovative structure has garnered industry veterans to join the company and aid in its growth. SMC's range of artist owned label partners includes national heavyweights like Rakim and Killer Mike along with a staple of regional acts constantly being developed such as Messy Marv, The Jacka, and the Town Thizzness brand…SMC is distributed by Fontana, the indie subsidiary of Universal. It is SMC’s humble regional beginnings and loyalty to their artists and their careers that will guarantee the company to always be on the precipice of creativity and expansion in the music game...

DEATH ROW TAKES SNOOP DOGGY DOGG OFF THE LEASH!

On October 13, 2009, WIDEawake Entertainment Group will release Snoop Dogg's The Lost Sessions Volume 1, containing previously unreleased songs during his 1992-1997 years with Death Row Records.

"We are seeing historic enthusiasm for the Death Row catalogue across all types of our sales accounts and media outlets in North America," commented WIDEawake / Death Row CEO Lara Lavi. "We are grateful to fans and retailers everywhere for the incredible launch of WIDEawake and look forward to working with them in our upcoming release schedule."

Iconic in stature and in essence, Cordozar Calvin Broadus, Jr. (or Snoop Dogg) has carved out a permanent place in musical history. Undeniably, the rapper, producer, actor, entrepreneur, coach, husband and father, has performed the most unique balancing act that hip hop has ever witnessed. Never short on vision, drive or ambition, the sharp talking wordsworth has managed to redefine and reinvent himself over the course of his fifteen year career, each time revealing a distinctive cache from the depths within. His rhythmic cadences are classic in nature and his demeanor is as laid back and effortless as the brand extensions he has created for himself. Signing with Death Row in 1992 Snoop's "Doggystyle" and The Doggfather" has sold over 7 million copies around the world, and still places on the American and Canadian Hip Hop Album Chart to this day.

Lavi is equally enthusiastic over the new business model for the label, which includes a stronger tie-in with fans and artists. "There is a lot to celebrate. As we kick-off this release, we are also determined to raise the bar for royalty statements and being honest in this industry with all artists -- past and future. Snoop has done so much for both Death Row Records and the West Coast by spawning such artists as Tha Dogg Pound, Nate Dogg, and The LBC Crew. We hope this serves him the justice he rightfully deserves."

"The Lost Sessions Volume 1". contains classic unheard gems such as "Eat A D*ck", "Caught Up", and "Fallin' Asleep On Death Row".

Other guests on "The Lost Sessions Volume 1" include The Lady of Rage, Tha Dogg Pound, Bad Azz, and Tray Deee. An exclusive version for Best Buy/Napster includes three bonus cuts titled: "Quite Obvious," "Once Again," and "Got To Do Wrong."

The track list is as follows:

1. Soldier Story (Intro)

2. Doggystyle (Produced By Dr. Dre) feat George Clinton

3. Fallin' Asleep On Death Row (Produced By Dr. Dre)

4. Eat A Dick (Produced By Dr. Dre)

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

I just finished laying out my plan for health reform at a joint session of Congress. Now, I'm writing directly to you because what happens next is critical -- and I need your help.

Change this big will not happen because I ask for it. It can only come when the nation demands it. Congress knows where I stand. Now they need to hear from you.

Add your voice: Ask your representatives to support my plan for real health reform in 2009:
http://my.barackobama.com/SupportReform

The heart of my plan is simple: bring stability and security to Americans who already have health insurance, guarantee affordable coverage for those who don't, and rein in the cost of health care.

Tonight, I offered a specific plan for how to make it happen. I incorporated the best ideas from Democrats and Republicans to create a plan that's bold, practical, and represents the broad consensus of the American people.

We've come closer to real health reform in the last few months than we have in the last 60 years. But those who profit from the status quo -- and those who put partisan advantage above all else -- will fight us every inch of the way.

We do not seek that fight, but we will not shrink from it. The stakes are too high to let scare tactics cloud the debate, or to allow partisan bickering to block the path. Your voice, right now, is essential.

See my full plan and call on your representatives to support it:
http://my.barackobama.com/SupportReform

Ours is not the first generation to understand the dire need for health reform. And I am not the first President to take up this cause, but I am determined to be the last.
Thank you,
President Barack Obama

WE'VE GOT SOME OF THE WORLD'S BEST DJ's! THE RAP ATTACK DJ'S! GET TO KNOW OUR DJ's BY LOGGING ONTO:
www.MySpace.com/RapAttackLives
AND PEEP OUR UPDATED PHOTO PAGE...

Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:

Chill Will (WCBN-MI): "What's up? This has been a crazy but great week. Had the pleasure of rocking the stage at the Crofoot Ballroom with Rakim (see photo above). One of the best shows I've been to and the crowd couldn't get enough. The classics he did and the new stuff everyone went bananas. And he took it back to the essence of Hip Hop with the DJ being just as important as the MC. Shout to DJ Imperial who rocked a flawless performance with Rakim. For more information about me DJ Chill Will go to www.myspace.com/djchillwill734...

DJ Sage (CFRO-Vancouver, BC): "We kicked it off tonight with a nice Double Shot from BK-One's new studio compilation, Radio Do Canibal. There are a ton of guest spots on this one, from Phonte to Aceyalone and it showcases some overseas production style that is very nice and fresh. Pick this one up wherever fine music is sold, although you may have to find an Internet retailer to facilitate your search!
For our first interview, we were joined by the always energetic Brooklyn MC, Bekay. This very talented MC promised us a great interview and did not disappoint! He's working on eliminating the candy-coated Hip-Hop that is saturating the commercial airwaves with his album, "Hunger Pains", which is due out on November 10th of this year. He weighed in on issues surrounding the Hip Hop and music world in general as well as why you should cop his album! Hit him up at
www.MySpace.com/BeKay . This man is a monster! He even dropped a freshly written verse that the world has never heard!

We were then joined by Toronto (by way of Halifax) MC, Spesh K. He discussed his new disc, "90209", which is out now! The easiest way to check it out is on iTunes, so get your online copping on! He discussed the diversity of his collaborations, touring and more! Check him out at www.SpeshK.com!

We had nothing but great music tonight as well. Being back to our 2-hour timeslot, we gotta fit in nothing but the best! Cormega, Bekay, KRS-One & Buckshot, M.O.P., Pete Rock, Brother Ali and Skyzoo were front and center tonight, so make sure you download the podcast at www.UrbanRenewalProject.net!...

Nate Abney (WKDU-Philly): "Well first off let me say RIP to Mr Magic. A true pioneer in Hip-Hop. If the younger cats don't know go back and do your research so you won't be ignorant to history. I would not have the desire to do what I do if it were not for people like him and Nasty Nes and any body trying to represent HIP HOP music the right way.

The Phillies start their title defense and the Rockies are first to get the smack down(provided our bullpen doesn't blow it). Penn State rebounded and the Flyers are looking good. 5 is back this week so I expect another route at the Linc. Shouts to everyone still lacing your boy with music. It is much appreciated"...

Kazzeo (KHDC-CA): "There's nothing more I can say or write about Jamarcus Russell. He sucks and now let's move on.

I remember back in 1986 walking into a record store and buying the first Mr. Magic compilation. I thought it was so dope since I wouldn't have to buy sixteen different 12 inch singles. Instead I could buy this one compilation that had all my favorite tracks on it. Mr. Magic gave me that same feeling 3 more time over the years with his Rap Attack releases. If it wasn't for Mr. Magic breaking down the walls on commercial radio for mixshows, there would be no Funkmaster Flex. There would be no Sway & King Tech. There would be no Hip Hop mixshows on corporate radio period. It's an un-measurable loss for Hip Hop that this man passed last week. All you new kids who didn't start spinning until the mid 90's really need to go do some homework and understand what this man meant to the game and the culture. MR. MAGIC, REST IN PEACE.

Shout out to YZ for calling in to last weeks show"...

Kevin Sakoda (KSPC-CA): "Hope everyone's doing well. If you're not in the LA-area, you can catch the show live (via iTunes) every Saturday, 5-7PM (west-coast time): http://www.kspc.org/popup.html  You can also find archived playlists and download links 24/7: http://blogs.myspace.com/kevsakoda Enjoy!
