MOST
MEMORABLE HIP-HOP MOMENT IN 2009:

Nasty-Nes
(RapAttackLives.com): "A lot of you know about my
personal struggles I went through over the past few
years & because of my faith in the MAN up above I've
overcome those struggles. So I am thankful for that &
much more which include this year:
1. June
25, 2009 is a date millions will never forget as we lost
"The King of Pop" Michael Jackson. I'll never
forget that day first reading about it on Twitter
& then keeping my eyes glued onto CNN until it
was official when TMZ confirmed, "MICHAEL
JACKSON IS DEAD." The first album on vinyl I bought
with my own money was back in 1970 & it was The
Jackson 5 album, "ABC." R.I.P. MJ.
2. Goin
back home to Seattle in Nov 2009 & to be filmed in a
documentary/film about Seattle's Hip-Hop history. The 3
day shoot reunited me on film with my original
KCMU Rap Attack posse, it also reunited me with
the original Sir Mix-A-Lot posse and with my Sifu
Taky Kimura. Taky has been my mentor & father
figure since I was 13 years old. We talked on film about
his close relationship with Bruce Lee & how he
passed on to me what he learned from Bruce. Coolout
Network is producing this film scheduled for
release in 2010.
3. I
was on NBC's season finale episode of "ER"
& I finally got my first commercial acting gig/job & it
was a Fed-Ex commercial where I act with
comedian/actor, Fred Willard on May 2009!
4.
Boxer Manny Pacquiao made history being the first
boxer to win 7 titles in 7 different weight classes!
Pinoy Pride all the way!
5.
Having KRS-One on our Rap Attack Conf Call.
I was one of the 1st dj's on the west coast to break his
music on the radio back in the 80's but I never got to
speak to him until that call. KRS is like meeting
President Obama or even a Michael Jackson.
He's as real as it gets & he truly represents Hip-Hop &
to me is one of the greatest emcees ever.
It's
been 5 years & 8 months since I quit smoking & I feel
GREAT! I can go on & on & on on how thankful I am for
2009. But I have to reach out to my extended family at
RAP ATTACK & say, "THANK YOU!" You have
made this year a great year for me & for Hip-Hop music.
I couldn't have done this without you. You've been by my
side all these years & I appreciate that. I'm a very
humble guy & I don't need the limelight or media to
prove to anyone anything. Those that know me well know
that everything I do comes from my heart
unconditionally"...
DJ
Meddafore (Mixtapes-PA & FL): "Losing Michael
Jackson was like losing a piece of life. I remember
just staring at the television screen during the entire
funeral still in shock like there's no way this is
happening right now. I've listened to so many MJ tribute
mixes for like the next 2 months and never got sick of
it. He is still the King of Pop!"
Chill
Will
(WCBN-MI): "One was seeing Ghostface kill
it with the classics and his new stuff. Then the
Clipse, Cool Kidz, Del The Funky
Homosapien and A Plus all rocked the stages.
Along with Mike Relm who had a dope video set.
And last but not least Brother Ali ripping the
stage and yes he is one of my favorite MC's. Had some
big names come to town and a few were hella late. Have a
great Christmas and New Year!!!!!!"...

Double J
(Foundation Media): "Going to watch my Kansas
Jayhawks for the first time in Lawrence, Kansas"...

DJ
Frresh (Mixtapes-Chicago): "Winning the westcoast
mixtape dj of year award for 2 yrs straight at the "2009
Westcoast Hip-Hop Awards" & also one the most memorable
moment in 2009 was when my mom wished me a happy
birthday before she passed away one week later"...

Nate
Abney
(WKDU-Philly): "My most memorable moment in 2009
without a doubt was the passing of MJ. The
greatest of them all, someone who I admired since I was
like 5 or 6. Owning alot of his records my dream was to
actually see him and live and maybe get lucky enough to
record a song with him. Since that won't happen I will
just enjoy what I have and let people who don't know
know. In recent years I have been able to talk with
people who actually had the pleasure of being in the
presence of the King Of Pop. They all are in agreement
about the talent he possessed. All the other stuff
aside( which I never really paid attention to). I was a
fan of the music. It has made me a better hip hopper
also and expect good music all the time and not just
whatever is the flavor of the month. So there you have
it R.I.P. MJ"...

Nesto
formerly
of: (WODU-VA): "My most memorable moment hands
down had to be when I got to travel to Tokyo, and it
just so happened that the trip fell on my birthday. I
always wanted to hit Tokyo up, but never thought I'd
actually make it out there one day. Bright lights, big
city, amazing energy and vibe I got from the city and
the people. Wish I could have stayed longer. I got to
dig while I was out there, and just taking in the moment
of diggin for hip hop in Tokyo was an ill feeling. The
picture I have attached doesn't even show me, but it
shows a Coca-Cola bottle leaning on a fench at the
Narita Airport in Tokyo. The label says it all,
"Refreshing and Up-lifting".. that's how I felt while I
was in Tokyo and how I felt a few weeks after I got back
to the states from that trip. I really needed to get out
of this town at the time of that trip, and being in the
big city of Tokyo did my body good. Just like Alicia
Keys sings in the hook of the Empire State of Mind
"Concrete jungle where dreams are made of, there's
nothing you can't do".. that's how I felt when I was out
there and when I got back.. I'm a city dweller man, and
this country life is killing me"...

DJ
Solo (WECI-IN): "the loss of Roc Raida
and DJ AM stunned alot of us. Michael Jakson's
passing it me hard. they will all truely be missed
but not forgotten"...

Mel
Boogie
(CKLN-Canada):
"My favorite moment this year is FINALLY getting back on
the air (that was the LONGEST 8 months of my life!!!!)
and having the opportunity to open for Busta Rhymes
in Toronto"...

Kazzeo
(KHDC-CA):
"Looking back on 2009, it's a
little harder this year to recognize a real standout
memory than it has been in past years. 2009 was the
first year since 2001 that I stayed on the West Coast
for the entire year. I didn't attend the annual
CMJ event where something crazy always goes down
so I don't have anything to recall from that. So I have
to draw a memory from somewhere else in my mental
archives. Could it be hanging out at the "Fresh Air"
tour with Brother Ali & Evidence? Could it
be going to see a live taping of the Jimmy Kimmel
show and rolling out to Fat Burger at 2am like Ice
Cube? Maybe it's going to see a Saigon show
where he just leaves the club before getting on stage
because there aren't enough people in the club. It might
be the fun of making all my youtube videos
bashing Jamarcus Russell. Or it could be the fun
of watching J-Lo bust her ass at the American
Music Awards or Tiger Woods self destruct
over some hoes. Nah it's none of the above. It's
actually a tie between two other thing. I'll remember
2009 as the year that one of the guys who inspired me to
do what I do on radio, a guy a used to listen to when I
was in high school, decided it was time to hang up the
headphones and enjoy life. It was the year that my boy
Mike Nardone, one of the best college dj's in the
game, ended his show on KXLU. 2009 was also the
year that I marked 16 years on air hosting my show, the
ONLY place to hear raw, real Hip Hop on the Central
Coast of Cali. Those are my two greatest memories of
2009. Shout out to my radio brother Jason D, my
boy Tahmi Gotti, Nasty Nes for continuing
to dominate with Rap Attack, all the
promoters in the game keeping the music coming my way,
all the artists who took time to be on my show this past
year, all the true college dj's doing it for the love &
not the promise of career advancement, and to close
circle of friends who listen to my late night moments of
frustration. You know who you are. R.I.P. to
Michael Jackson, Ricardo Montalban, Paul
Harvey, Marilyn Chambers, Viola Wills, David Carradine,
Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Mr. Magic, and my fellow
Santa Cruz native Jasmine Fiore"...

The
Wonder TwinZ
- DJ Sonic (SIRIUS): "2009 was another
great year; I still can't believe it’s over... But this
cold ass weather is a definite reminder that it’s a
wrap!!!! I have many memories of 2009, but my proudest
moment of the year took place on April 21st... Prior to
that date, I had learned that a childhood friend of mine
was diagnosed with Kidney failure and had begun Dialysis
treatment three times a week. Although a person can
prolong their life by going to Dialysis, the treatment
doesn’t cure the disease. Therefore, they will
ultimately die from kidney failure.
The day
I was told that my friend was going thru this situation
is when I immediately called my local hospital and
inquired about kidney donation and what the required
steps were. Once I was given the proper answers to my
questions, I made the decision to offer my kidney to my
friend. However, it’s not as simple as that. There are
several tests, exams, etc that must be done, before the
doctor can approve a donation from a possible donor. So
with that being said, I spent the first few months of
2009 going back and forth to my doctor to perform
various tests. Upon completion of the final exam, I was
given the "Go Ahead" by my Doctor. So on the morning of
April 21st, 2009, I checked into the Hospital and
underwent a successful kidney donation procedure, in
which the doctors took a kidney out of my body and put
it into my friend’s body.
Here we
are several months later and I'm happy to say that my
friend is doing great... He has been able to go back to
work full-time. Even better that that, he has asked his
girlfriend to marry him and she said Yes. So 2009 was a
great year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The
Wonder TwinZ
– LORD VADER (SIRIUS): "WOW… another year
gone. 2009 was an absolutely amazing year. It seems like
we packed 24 months into 1 year. We started out 2009
with a three-week tour across Canada performing over a
dozen shows in some of the coldest cities I’ve ever been
to. Traveling across Canada, in a state-of-the-art tour
bus, with Naughty By Nature was a dream come true. Very
few forms of travel compare to a custom tour bus and I
cant wait to do it again.
A few
months later, my brother successfully donated his kidney
to our best friend and thankfully saved his life. They
are both healthy and doing great now.
In July,
we moved out of our bachelor pad and in to our new home
on a beautiful 3-acre, lakefront, property on Long
Island. Somewhere around this same time, my girlfriend
found an Internet posting for a TV show looking to
renovate a house. I submitted an email with pictures and
video of our new home and told them what we’d like to
renovate. A few months later, there’s a full-blown
camera crew in our house for one week straight. They
renovated three rooms, installing new hard wood floors,
walk-in closets and even a flat screen TV that rises up
out of a cabinet. It’s amazing how much free stuff you
can get from one simple email.
All of
this stuff has been amazing, but no experience I’ve had
this year would compare to the experience I was
fortunate to have in October. Thanks to Naughty By
Nature, DJ Skribble and the USO, I was
given the opportunity to travel 14 hours around the
world to Iraq & Kuwait to perform on a bunch of US
Military bases. Every day, they had something new
line-up for us to experience. From riding in tanks to
flying in C-130 cargo planes, we did it all. They even
flew us, in Blackhawk Helicopters with the doors wide
open, to a small camp along the Syrian border. They took
us to their Special Forces division and showed us all
their cool toys like rocket launchers, grenade
launchers, sniper rifles and night vision goggles. We
performed for hundreds of troops and got to eat and live
amongst them for one week. What an amazing week. After
sitting there and listening to the stories from these
soldiers and seeing, first-hand, what they go through, I
have a new respect for the armed forces. Each night I
sat up for an extra two hours and wrote a long yet
extremely detailed blog about each day.

Now in
the last month of 2009, we have completed our very first
project for AMP Films that will be airing on the

and notorious moments of 2009”. Being that this is our
first independent project to air on this network, we are
all very excited to see it come to life.

all, 2009 was a great year for The Wonder TwinZ. From
countrywide tours, to kidney donations, free home
renovations for TV to traveling to The Persian Gulf to
raise the moral of our troops, we’ve done a lot this
year and I cant wait to see what 2010 will bring us"..
