Curtis Sliwa
founder of the Guardian Angels was on the front
page of the NY Daily News. It is the largest news
paper in the country. He gives you the real deal on the
John Gotti Jr. interview that aired on 60 minutes.

Public Enemy
have
begun preparations for their new album, which is set to
include special guest performances by Tom Morello
(Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave),
Rise Against and Z-Trip. The band also
announces its plan to enter the studio sooner than
expected, as they establish a new fan funding goal via
SellaBand.com
in order to speed up the recording process.
Public Enemy are the first major act to utilize the fan
funding concept, reflecting their dedication to seeking
out alternatives to the major label system and the
traditional record company structure particularly
through the use of technology. PE were one of the first
to release an album on an artist-owned label, to release
an album in MP3 format, to collaborate directly with
fans via the Internet, and co-founder Chuck D is
a heralded pioneer in digital music and ownership
rights. “This project, as it sits, is a success and is
one of the largest budgets ever raised by fan funding,”
says Chuck D. “We have learned that the fan funding
model is still not fully developed and, as a result, a
$250,000 fund raising effort, while possible, will take
too long to accomplish.” The group decided to realign
their fund raising target to $75,000, determining that
the figure is one that the existing SellaBand model, as
well as the current economic climate, can better
support. The group had originally sought a higher budget
in order to record an album to allow for guest
collaborators on every song and acknowledge that being
the first to explore a new model such as this would
require adaptation along the way. As of today, PE has
amassed 75% of the revised goal, and will close funding
as soon as it reaches 100%. “This is our history and
will always be our legacy as pioneers in the music
business and we are unapologetic for our unyielding
advocacy for models that promote artist control and self
sufficiency,” Chuck D adds. “We will continue to be bold
and fearless and try new things that test old models.”

platforms, please go to Public Enemy’s profile page on

DJBabe Presents: The Newz Vol.1 No.1
Wattupdoe Folks ot's me DJ Babe! That's Detroit slang
for hello guys, unless you are from Atlanta who seems to
grasp the concept as their rappers keep stealing the
slang...
Anyway, for those that are familiar with the newsletters
that I distributed a few years back, before blogging was
trendy, when a blog was some green shit coming out of
your nose.. well dammit I'm back.
Basically DJBabe Presents The Newz is a commentary of
what and how I see the entertainment world through my
eyes, the statements are not the way it should be, just
the way I'm doing it.
There are times when the language will be foul,
abusive.. but since my demo are adults and bad ass
teenagers, just deal with it. Anyone who chooses to not
indulge in my thoughts can either delete this message,
or unsubscribe. Although if you do that, I'm sending you
a Trojan virus so deep all your computer will
able to access are nude photos of Charles Barkley.
So.. what's in the newz today?
Easter! Yay.. How about we celebrate the life and legacy
of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr who passed away 42
years ago, although we have a come a long way.. we still
have a ways to go. It doesn't help when I see these bama
ass negros paint their raggedy ass cars with McDonalds &
Pepsi logos all over their cars. That's truly a country
thing, or as the homie Wilt says: Kuntry. Coon ass
niggaz!
Now as to Easter, I'm not gonna turn this newsletter
into a religious debate but shout out to everybody who
drank Ciroc last night and got up to go to church in
their brightest suit they could find, only to hit the
strip club tonight. Shout out to the preacher who came
up on enough funds on Easter to buy a new helicopter.
Shout out to the old ladies that found an excuse to wear
those big ass parachute hats in public. Shout out to all
of the gay dudes who came out the closet today at the
family dinner. Easter!
So the Dallas police department decides to send
Erykah Badu a $500 citation for strutting that fat
ass all in public. There was a complaint issued by some
idiot passer-by who obviously didn't say anything at the
time but figures hey.. I can get in the media spotlight
by doing this. Erykah Badu came up with a brilliant plan
to sell units this week, stay in the media glare, gain
new fans, get her message across and in the end.. help
us understand why dudes who get a piece of that start to
wear baby T-shirts, green pants and smoke on bamboo
sticks. Hell.. after witnessing that video I totally get
what those guys went through, now let me go snatch up my
baby nephews shirts so I can be Badu-ized like them
other dudes.
The 2nd season of Tiny & Toya starts soon on
BET... LOL.. Enough said. When will the
networks understand that if they want an award winning
reality show, they better holla at me! Also, I got beef
with Chili from TLC. I applied to be on
her show as she is looking for love, and I didn't get
picked. Now... I didn't have to actually win the
contest, I just wanted to kick it in Atlanta, stay in a
fly crib, get some free Ed Hardy gear like on
Flavor Of Love and drink madd FREE liquor. Damn Chili...
you played me.
Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married Too grossed
about $30 million over the weekend. That's a lot of
money for a movie that's gonna get a lot of women beat
up.. I'm just saying, women.. leave that golf club scene
in the movie. That shit ain't gonna work everywhere, I'm
not Tiger Woods. just saying... "Kayne Shrug". I'm just
glad Madea wasn't in this movie, that's one ugly
ass woman.. and one very unfunny ugly ass woman. I hear
Wendy Williams is Madeas' stunt double. OK, I'm
wrong for that..
For those who are unaware, I have dropped several DVDs
with the latest music videos to put in ya ride, play in
the clubs or have the local bootleg guy sell my shit all
over the city (yea nigga I saw you). The latest is the
Cook-Up Vol.5, features new videos from Ludacris, Lloyd
Banks, Erykah Badonk-a-donk, Lil Jon, Usher & more.
Trust me, I'm getting it in with the DVD mixtapes, get
at ya boy!
You can catch me every Tuesday 6pm-8pm on
www.svmixradio.com
with the homies on the Drama Queen Show (I'm
the only dude for the dudes' perspective with the Drama
Queens) & look for me in Orlando, FL May 7-10 for the
Core DJ Retreat. Christina &
Mercedes make sure you have bail money cuz I may
just wild out!...
Malcolm McLaren who brought us Hip-Hop classics,
"Buffalo Gals," "Hey DJ" & "Hobo Scratch" has passed
away. (R.I.P.)
Malcolm McLaren, the former manager of the Sex
Pistols and impresario, has died. He was 64. McLaren had
had cancer for some time. His condition recently
deteriorated rapidly and he died this morning in New
York. His body is expected to be brought home to be
buried in Highgate cemetery, north London. Malcolm
McLaren was an important figure both in Hip Hop and
early punk.. Many outside the US knew him for his work
in the punk world. Most of us who were around in the
early 80s knew McLaren because of his work with the
World Famous Supreme Team radio show and his
hit records Buffalo Gals, Hey DJ and Hobo
Scratch which for many outside of New York was the
first time they heard scratching. A true pioneer on a
number of levels..McLaren to me was one of those crucial
bridges between punk and Hip Hop. That’s a history that
is often overlooked and down played..
Hell
Razah
of
Sunz Of Man & a former member of the Wu-Tang Clan
has suffered a brain aneurysm and is currently in a
coma...
Here is an excellent article giving props to Ricky
Leigh. He is the man who started the DJ CONF CALLs &
gave Mixshow DJ's their recognition.Ricky passed his
legacy to me at HITS Magazine back in 1997
so I could do the same with College Radio DJ's.13 years
later my RAP ATTACK DJ's have kept that
legacy alive. THANK YOU RICKY (R.I.P.):

E-40 DROPS AN UNPRECEDENTED 3 RELEASES ON THE SAME DAY
New Independent Label Heavy On The Grind Entertainment Make
Ground Breaking Moves Within The Music Industry
VALLEJO, CA / APRIL 8, 2010 - In one of the most challenging music retail
environments in history, E-40 made a bold and
unprecedented decision to drop three separate releases
all on the same March 30th street date. Each album
selling and sound scanning under their own bar code
making it a challenge to identify his total sales
looking at just one report. Due to the methods employed
by Sound Scan this decision would prevent him from
combining all three numbers into one large sales figure
and hence restrict his ability to chart as high as
possible on the Billboard top 200. However, today Sound
Scan reports the E-40 albums take the #5, #6 and #14
spots on the Top Rap Albums chart with nearly 30,000
units scanned. This is a combined total that would
translate to a Top 20 debut on the Top 200 Billboard
chart.
E-40 is no stranger to double albums, in 1998 he released
“The Element of Surprise” which successfully certified
Gold. This unique release of “Revenue Retrievin Day
Shift & Night Shift” included two separate new albums
each containing over 19 new songs. Heavy On The Grind
also created a 42 track exclusive Bonus pack digitally
sold via iTunes along with a 2 CD +T-Shirt & 10 free
ringtone bundle pack for sale at FYE Stores. “I got out
there, did my homework and went back to my roots and
made these albums for the streets that made me. Then I
utilized the internet and engaged in social networking
by interacting with my fans and I found out what they
wanted and what they liked best. Then I considered the
state of this economy recognizing that people want the
hook up, they want more and that’s exactly what I gave
them. Most albums have 10 or 12 tracks on them, I
exceeded that number then I doubled my product giving my
fans who are also consumers a bigger bang for their
buck, “smiles the Ambassador of the Bay, E-40.
Only an experienced student of the music industry, confident
artist and calculating entrepreneur would make the bold
decision that E-40 and his team made. Strategically
releasing 5 videos, complimented by a bandwidth of music
including features from Snoop Dogg, Gucci Mane, Too
Short, Mistah Fab, Bobby V, Jazze Pha, Mac Shawn 100,
YV, J. Valentine, B-Legit, The Jacka, Keak Tha Sneak,
San Quinn, Suga Free, Dru Down, Lenny Williams, Suga T,
Messy Marv, Dem Hoodstarz, Ya Boy, The DB’z, Larooth,
Turf Talk, Clyde Carson, Husalah, Mugsy, Kris Kalico,
B-Slimm, J-Diggs, Big Rich , Cousin Fik, Stressmatic,
Mike Marshall, Marty James of One Block Radius and many
more. E-40’s son Droop-E, President of Heavy On The
Grind also Co-Executive Produced the album, this marks a
successful launch-pad for the label. “I would like to
thank everyone that participated in making this project
happen, the grit don’t quit” says, E-40. Fans can keep
up with E-40 as he continues promoting “Revenue
Retrievin Day Shift” & “Revenue Retrievin Night Shift”

Rap Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
Shareef Abdullah
(WRFL-KY): "Went to check out Jedi Mind Tricks
for the first time and was thoroughly impressed.
These cats ripped it for 40 plus minutes without pause
and DJ Kwestion was killing it on the tables all
night....big up to them cats for staying true to their
hardcore roots for all these years! This week dope pick
goes out to Smiley The Ghetto Child and his
insanely dope track, "I'm Legend," produced by DJ
Premier. This track is the definition of ill! Premo
cooks up a ridiculous track proving he hasn't lost a
step and Smiley serves the track well with his trademark
rugged delivery. If you not banging this on your show
you are definitely sleeping!"...
DJ
Sage (CFRO-Vancouver
BC): "Set it off proper by featuring a couple
tracks of the brand new Murs/9th Wonder album
“Fornever”. I am loving this album. It arrives in
perfect time with the weather warming up and sun shining
down. This album encompasses that West Coast vibe via
beats and guests (Kurupt and Suga Free).
In addition, has Murs doing what he does best, which is
telling stories. Some of the subject matters Murs covers
on this record are: dating a porn star, fighting
hangovers at an office job, drama filled relationships,
and his love of Hip-Hop is expressed throughout the
entire disc particularly on the track “I Used To Luv Her
(Again)”.
www.myspace.com/murs
We also had some local heavy hitters live in the studio!
Brass Tackz rolled through to tell us what is
good. Not only have the fellas been tearing down shows
locally, but they are just recently back from touring
Spain; doing both shows and recording music with some of
the local talent. Individually they are doing big things
as well D-Rec fresh off his beat battle win.
While both Evil and Snak talked about
their recent signing to Camobear Records, and
their upcoming solo albums dropping this Summer. If that
wasn’t enough the boys engaged in some good old fashion
freestyling to end things off right.

DJ Luicidal (KSJS-San Jose): "I spent a
nice Spring Break taking a breather from the charts. I
still had the chance to see a couple shows and put in
work. I hit up the Showdown in San Francisco with
Megabusive and the Sharkstyliens. I rocked a
Yacht party for Delta Sigma Phi on the weekend.
The KSJS Hip Hop fam was in the building for the Counter
Productive record release party. And we even caught a
Mob Figaz show in downtown San Jose. During my week
off, I took the time to update my Top 30 Chart to a Top
40 chart, therefore I will be able to break more records
while still giving other singles a chance to shine and
gain momentum on the chart. Thank you to everyone who
held me down this week. Oh and... GO SHARKS!"...
Nate
Abney (WKDU-Philly):
"Its another week of up and down weather. I guess
that's what Spring is early on. The Flyers made
the playoffs so maybe I have at least two weeks of hope.
The Phils looking good thus far so we will see.
Got to go grab my McNabb 5 Redskins jersey. It
also nice getting confirmation from your boss your job
is safe( Thank the Lord for that). The
Reflection Eternal's album looks to be really good
as well as Murs&9th Wonder. Catch me at Penn
Relays in a couple weeks watching Usain Bolt
should be alot of fun"...
D-Tragic (805HipHop.com): "Oh and just started the new show on air 91.9FM – KCSB Santa
Barbara “WORD ON THE STREETS RADIO” Thursdays 4-6 Also

Matt

it will now be pre-taped and I will still be doing my
chart. Please send your emails/mp3's/promos/priorities

Stuart de la Rosa
(KSMT-CO):
Attn: Radio Promoters- Simply put, my show would
have ran out of new material a long time ago if it
wasn't for your love for Hip-Hop and your hard work to
push dope ass music to us little guys on the DJ front
lines. I am grateful for all that you do and truly
apologize for my lack of feedback that I have fail to
provide most of you. As the year slips by us so fast, so
does my attempt to break you off with proper feedback
that all of your artists and yourselves deserve. All of
the Hip-Hop that yall provide is in constant rotation on
my show and gets the respect that it has earned. So with
that said, I will eventually get to all my feedback that
I owe you but till then know that I am lovin the music
and giving Summit County Colorado an underground Hip-Hop
show every Sunday night, killing it on commercial
radio"...
Kevin
