There's
no doubt that Big Daddy
Kane has been a well-respected rap titan for
almost 25 years, but he finally get around to tying the
knot. Kane, real name Antonio Monterio Hardy,
married his fiancée Shawnette in a private North
Carolina ceremony that took place on Saturday, May 1.
Kane, a one-time member of the legendary
Juice Crew, has
always been known for his smooth style and success with
the ladies, as well as on the mic. Kane is widely
regarded as a pioneer MC and remains best known for
dropping complex rhymes all over 'Long Live the Kane'
and 'It's a Big Daddy Thing,' his first two records from
1988 and 1989, respectively...

Rap
Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
Jason-D
(RadioBoise.org):
"Boise
was blessed this week with a visit from LMNO & Kev
Brown (see photo above). Both ripped through new and
old material with professionalism and great stage
presence. Kev even rocked some beats live off his drum
machine. LMNO has been working on 10 albums for 2010.
Each album features a different producer. The tour is in
support of their latest project "James Brown" aka
"Selective Hearing Part 2" featuring production entirely
by Kev Brown. There is some double irony in the title.
LMNO's first name is James and Kev's last name is Brown
and the production is highlighting James Brown samples.
The latest single "Ya Know" b/w "The Ultimate" is being
promoted by
Trevor@UpAbove.com . Hit him up for details.
This is solid boom bap Hip-Hop that should be in
rotation on your college station"...

Will
(WCBN-MI): "What up people? Been a hectic week
with the passing of DJ Hideo. BumSquad is
having a tribute (see photo above) for Hideo on Monday
in LA at The Highlands Hollywood with all proceeds going
to DJ Hideo's estate. The Bumsquad djz will be in the
building rockin on 4 turntables so come thru and show
your support. Also Mother's day is this weekend so give
thanks to all the mothers who are here, and those who
have passed on. Because if it wasn't for them we
wouldn't be here. For more information about me DJ Chill

Jeffrey

"Just wanted to remind everyone that Malcolm Kerr
will be taking over as Urban Music Director
in the next few weeks for WMHB. He's a great guy
and a lot of fun to work with! Thanks for everything,
let me know if there is anything I can do for you!"...
Shareef
Abdullah
(WRFL-KY):
"Peace...I have issues with lazy and non-skilled DJ's
who think they can make up for their shortcomings by
playing popular records. For instance, at the
Reflection Eternal show, the DJ played consecutive
songs by Biggie and Wu-Tang that where
down right predictable with no creative blends or mixes.
To add insult to injury, his tribute to Guru only
consisted of a 30 sec snippet of Mass Appeal, then he
went back to his boring and typical set which included
shout outs to everybody he knew that was in the
building. I'm sure with all the mp3 files he had on his
laptop he could at least break one or two new records,
but I guess that would be too much to ask for in this
day in age of wack and unoriginal DJ's! Much respect to
all the DJ's who still break new records"...
DJ
Sage (CFRO-Vancouver,
BC): "We came back again with some heat today. First of
all, all of us at URP give a big shout out to DJ
Brukout; we wish you a speedy recovery and all
the best.
We had a
New York rapper join us by the name of Ayinde. He is making
some serious noise with his banging new original
material mixtape “No Slices”, which is available on his
myspace as a free download.

We had a little go - off on some Ras Kass and
even featured that new Eminem single “I'm Not
Afraid”. We came with the usual heat son.

Kevin
Sakoda
(KSPC-CA):
"Hope everyone's doing well. I definitely have to kick
this week's email off with a SALUTE to DJ Hideo
and Guru. Hideo was a friend and mentor before I
even got into the music business, and his perpetual
kindness will truly be missed. Guru had already created
classic albums before I ever met him (incidentally, it
was the one and only DJ Rob One who introduced me
to him), and through the years he has always been one of
the most generous artists to deal with. I sometimes get
negative about the state of our business and culture,
but I pray that the next generation is lucky enough to
follow the lead of people like Hideo, Guru, Rob One,
Bigga B, and our many other fallen comrades who
understood that we are only as good as the company we
keep.
In brighter news, as the show goes on I want to start
highlighting some of the new music I've played. This
past Saturday's show kicked off with the El Medina
Project's "Battle of Badr 317" (big shout to Ern
Dogg...west up!). I also worked in new joints from
the homies Eternia (feat Ras Kass),
Droop Capone, 2 Hungry Bros/8th W1 (and the AOK
crew), Trek Life, Mad One (San Antonio stand
up!), YP, Amad Jamal (thanks Beni), and
appropriately enough...something DJ Ice sent over
from DJ Lord Ron featuring Guru.
If you're not in the LA-area, you can catch the show
live (via iTunes) every Saturday,
5-7PM (west-coast time):
