A MESSAGE FROM DJ AARON
WADE (djaaronwade@yahoo.com):
"Been a while since you've heard from me (for a lot of
you). Since I retired my FM radio show in
Milwaukee,
I've been career and family focused.
BUT... i just can't stay away! I've been given this cool
opportunity, and I jumped on it. I'm now the Program
Director for "Underground Hip Hop" on
www.slacker.com.
Hopefully you all know what slacker is... if you don't,
in short, it's internet radio (like pandora or aol) and
it has a sweet mobile app available for all smartphones.
I recently linked up w/ the head folks in San Diego,
explained my ideas on the station, and BAM! I'm
programming this stellar station!
Please go to www.slacker.com and look under "hip hop" to
find the station. It just went live tonight. PLEASE
PLEASE send me all your new singles for consideration,
as I can add songs and change the rotation on the
station at ANY TIME on my own time and 100% at my own
discretion.
YOU KNOW HOW I DO - nothing but HEAT! I built the
station on the foundation of that classic boom-bap rap
sound... that's what it's all about.
So please make sure you send me the hot mp3's. This is
worldwide, and I spent hours and hours and hours
preparing it for the debut. The station is comprised of
the best 450 songs (not mainstream) that i could come up
with... 80's, 90's, 99-09, and current.
Thank you in advance for working with me and checking
out this dope ass new station!"...

Here is an excellent article giving props to Ricky
Leigh. He is the man who started the DJ CONF CALLs &
gave Mixshow DJ's their recognition.Ricky passed his
legacy to me at
HITS
Magazine
back in 1997 so I could do the same with College Radio
DJ's.13 years later my RAP ATTACK DJ's
have kept that legacy alive. THANK YOU RICKY (R.I.P.):

Rap
Attack takes a "WHAT'S UPPER" look this week with:
Nate
Abney
(WKDU-Philly): "A lot of much needed rain this
week. We really needed it here. The Phils are
starting to get back on track this week. Now the
National League has home field advantage we can host
the World Series now( yeah I said it). Will be
hitting
Atlanta
next weeek for a family reunion and some rest, looking
forward to it for sure. Appreciate all the love everyone
keep the good stuff coming"...
DJ
Luicidal (KSJS-CA): "Nice week in San Jose.
Rocked a show with Soapbox Melodics in Campbell,
featuring the Sharkstyliens, Matty Slims, Kash, Sean
Blak, and Tape Mastah Steph, the movement is
taking over. Also had a show at Johnny V's with Dulok
Shaman, Rec League, LoDeck, and Lucky Loosh.
Catch them on the No Time Outs tour hittin' Los Angeles
this week. Feels good to see so much talent in my city.
Next week I will be rocking the stage with the one and
only Dogg Pound, Kurupt n Daz!"...
DJ
Sage (CFRO-Vancouver): "We set it off with
another much-anticipated Double Shot, featuring
Capone-N-Noreaga's latest disc, “The War Report
2”. Whenever an artist puts '2' after the title of a
classic album, it creates some pretty high expectations.
Unfortunately for CNN, the general consensus from the
URP is that
TWR2
doesn't deliver enough quality tracks to be considered on the same level
as the original War Report. While there are some solid
tracks and features (Nas, Raekwon and more) on
the album, it does fall a bit short. It's still worth
checking out if you're a diehard QB fan though!
We were then joined by Urban Renewal Project
favourites,
North
Carolina representers, Kooley High. The
collective has been putting it down for a minute now,
and have their debut album, Eastern Standard Time,
dropping on July 27th of this year. We discussed the
group dynamic within Kooley High, the feeling of finally
dropping an album and much more. Check out
www.KooleyHigh.com
for all the latest news, tour dates,
downloads and more from Kooley High! Keep an eye out for
“Eastern Standard Time”, which will be available
wherever fine music is sold (iTunes, Amazon, ect...).
We also had
Vancouver's
own SonReal stop by the studio to plug his new, free
mixtape, entitled “The Lightyear Mixtape” and his
performance at Fortune Sound Club on July 14th. The
kid's been in the game for a minute, released a couple
albums and is making big moves with some very notable
names in the Canadian Hip-Hop scene. Check out
www.SonReal.ca
for tour dates, downloads, videos and all the
latest from SonReal!
We also got into some good tunes from Rahsaan, The
Roots, Kooley High, SonReal, Big Boi, Tona
and plenty more so don't sleep on this week's podcast,
which will be up very shortly on
www.URPRadio.Podomatic.com &
www.URPRadio.Blogspot.com...
Savvy
(KDON-CA):
"Peace everyone, hope you are all enjoying the summer
sun. I know all my folks out in NYC have been dealing
with some real heat waves, was crazy to see they have
opened up 'cooling centers' out there! Whoa. This past
week was a very emotional for many residents of the
Bay Area as we watched the verdict for the Oscar
Grant trial come down. Johannes Mehserle was
found guilty of involuntary manslaughter, a verdict that
many people do not feel was just. Later, more details
emerged as we learned about the jury, it did not include
ANY African Americans. Needless to say, this was very
tough to witness because of all the aftermath too.
Although rioting was expected, come to find out - many
of the rioters were not even residents of Oakland. It's
times like this where we can use the power of music to
communicate important messages to our communities and
fans: violence is not a solution.
I had
the great opportunity to catch up with The Jacka
on the evening of the verdict, as he shared his thoughts
on the trial. In addition, we also got to touch on some
of the upcoming projects he has coming out with Andre
Nikatina, Freeway, and Paul Wall. One
of the things I admire the most about Jacka is his
humility, and great sense of humbleness. You can peep
the interview in the second hour of hour show below. And
also don't forget to come out and support if you are in
the Central Coast on Sunday July 18th, The Mobb
Figgaz and Strong Arm Steady will be
performing at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz"...
Kevin
Sakoda
(KSPC-CA):
