What's upper! I hope you & your family are enjoyng this
three day Memorial Day weekend. Last Friday
night, I went out to peep Prince Paul in concert
at the House Of Blues & I gotta tell you, if he comes to
your part of town, you gotta see his show. It's not like
your ordinary hip-hop show where the emcee gets on the
mic, walks left to right & the dj's behind him cuttin'
it up. Prince Paul actually puts on a show with a bunch
of funny skits & he goes down memory lane to his days
with De la Soul, Stetsasonic & the
Gravediggaz. My dawg & Rap Attack
mixtape reporter, DJ Avee is the tour dj for
Prince Paul & their sidekick who shares the stage with
them is a cat by the name of Dead who adds a lot
of life to the show. Another one of our mixtape
reporters, DJ 3-D is on the road with Prince Paul
& it was great seeing all of them in my part of town!
Prince Paul's album "Politics Of The Business" will be
released via Razor & Tie Records. His single
"What I Need" featuring Sly Boogie & Kardinal
Offishall (the Sensimilla Mix) is bangin' according
to DJ Chill Wll from Ann Arbor, MI's WCBN.
Big ups to my potnah in hip-hop crime, Abby O'Neil
for hookin' this up for me but girl you are
dangerous when you start lighting up the L's & tossin'
down the liquids!...
Kansas City's
up & coming artist, Tech N9NE's in town this week
& I look forward to parlayin' with all the local
L.A.
dj's at his show at the House Of Blues. Tech N9NE's
joint "Imma Tell" (Strange Music) is gettin' a lot of
good feedback & I think his time to make noise is gonna
happen this year. My dawgs Dave Weiner & Mark
Cerami best known for getting Masta P his big
label deal at Priority back in the days, are the
same heads who are responsible for gettin' Tech N9NE
signed. We wish em all the success & thank them for not
ignoring our college radio & mixtape panel with
servicing them with the vinyl. We got your back!... A
couple weeks ago I tipped you on a new group outta CT.,
Phar-city. I recently got a copy of one of their
cuts "Hands In The Air" (Dolo-Mic) featuring Panjabi
MC. Yo, this cut is on FIYA & is already getting out
the box airplay on an unreleased cut in their own
hometown. Stay tuned as I try to convince their upper
hands to release this cut & gve it to our panel to blow
the ish up!... Check your mail this week for Avatar
Records release of the National Vinyl Association
sampler featuring new joints from Slum Village
"Da Villa"& new ish from Rakaa & Babu
of Dilated Peoples and a new cut from Phil Da
Agony featuring Planet Asia. Peep it & then
pump it up on your one's & two's... Be on the lookout
for th debut single by
Canada's own 24K "Skully" (Madd Records) produced
by Just Blaze. This joint is perfect to rock the
clubs with. Stay tuned... I just got the new DJ
Kayslay album "StreetSweeper Volume 1" (Columbia/CRG).
KaySlay the 4 time world heavyweight mixtape champion
pulls no punches on this album. It is hittin' hard on my
wheels & just about everybody who's anybody that's makin'
noise in hip-hop is featured on this album. Heads like
50 Cent, Scarface, Fat Joe,
Craig Mack, Nas, Cam'ron, N.O.R.E.,
Wyclef & Joe Budden to name a few are all
spittin' lyrics on KaySlay's album. Much props & two
thumbs up for "The Streetsweeper Vol. 1"... Last but not
least, a huge congratulations goes out to Papa D.
a.k.a. Doug
Kato from Up Above Records
on the birth of his first ever newborn daughter,
Keala Hahiko Kato born on May 22nd! Big Papa D's a
for real papa now & we all wish him & Ms Papa D the best
in raising up their first child. May God bless
you both & your daughter... SHOUT OUT TIZIME: To
the Roberto family ( Mr & Mrs Roberto, it was a
pleasure meeting you both. You are wonderful people.
Props to Banig, I enjoyed watching your rehersal
