[[ June 9, 2003  ]]

What's upper! I want to thank my local peeps for comin' out to the Chocolate Bar club last Saturday night as Avatar Records hosted the PMD record release party & the NVA "Straight From The Crates Vol. 1" album release with special guest, Planet Asia. For those of you who received the vinyl sampler in your mail, please note that the song titles are missing so here it is: Slum Village "Da Villa," Rakaa & Babu of Dilated Peoples "Speakin' The Truth" and Phil Da Agony featuring Planet Asia "Classical Hit." Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive as the NVA sampler debuts out the box in this weeks TOP 5 CONFERENCE CALL PICKS!... The new 24K "Skully" (Madd Records) is on fiya with the help of producer Just Blaze. 24K is no doubt reppin' Brooklyn with her hot new single a must for your one's & two's. My dawg Reggie Love from NY's WDFH says, "Skully" is off the motherf*ckin chain! 24K is a cross between MC Lyte, Foxy Brown, Eve, Sonja Blade & Remy Martin all rolled into one. This chick's rhymes are tight as hell. 24K's gonna make a lot of heads turn & it kind of helps when you got Just Blaze producing your first single!" To get laced call (514) 705-5635 or via email: MADD_INFO@YAHOO.COM. You can also peep their website at: WWW.24DANGERSPOTS.COM... Have you peeped the new Black Eyed Peas joint "Hey Mama" (AM/Interscope) yet? Yo, BEP is back & stronger than ever as this 12" just blew me away. Our homie & reporter Lam Ngyuen from WLSO in MI. says, "I just wanted to let you know that the track is bangin' and I see it doin' big things in the near future. I spun it at a house party this past weekend and the people were really feelin' it, asking me the artist and song title. It's definitely another party track like "Joints and Jams"... I am pleased to announce that Davey D. Cook from Oaktown's KPFA has officially been brought on board as AOL Radio@Network's full-time Urban Music Director, reporting to Senior Programming Manager, Michele Flannery. Dave has been with AOL in this role of Urban Music Director as a contractor since February 2002. Since then, Davey has increased overall listenership across the Radio@AOL/ Spinner/ Radio@Netscape brands on all of his stations (HipHop, Top Jams, Rap, NeoSoul, Slow Jams, R&B Fresh, Funk, Urban Divas, Old Skool). Big ups homie!!!... On the Yay area tip, DJ Colt 45 is making some big moves with The Soulbeat Television Network located in deep East Oakland. Modeled after the Larry King show, his show is a two hour program of straight hip-hop talk with no videos. The show allows for the intellectual discussion of hip-hop and serves as a supplement to the mainstream video shows currently being aired. His show's been on the air for almost two months now and the response has been astounding. Much like the Larry King show, it opens up the phone lines to the viewing audience and gives them the opportunity to discuss the hip-hop topic at hand plus they let cats bust a verse to show there skills over the phone. It's two hours of un-cut hip-hop at its best. DJ Colt 45 says, "My vision for this show is to make it a "must stop" for all touring hip-hop artist be they commercial or underground. Furthermore I am more than willing to feature any new product (preferably vinyl) to assist in anybody's promotion efforts. So please, if you know any hip-hop artist, poet, DJ, breakdancer, etc. coming through the Yay Area, tell them they need to holla at 45!" There it is. Give Colt 45 a holla & make it happen at (510) 459-0337 or online at: HIPHOPTALKSHOW@YAHOO.COM. Tell him Rap Attack sent ya'!... Here's the latest Mixtape Contest news that our boy Semp Rock outta Miami's WGRP is runnin'. Big ups the final three finalists, DJ Buddhabong from SOLOFHIPHOP.COM, DJ A-Beats & Mixtape Killah. Both Papa-D from Bostons' WRBB & Landspeed and Iz-Real from Insomniac & I will be judging the final three & breaking it down for the ultimate mixtape idol champion! Stay tuned, ya' heard... Comin' outta Detroit is some more phat Detroit ish. Look out for King Gordy & his debut single "The Pain" (WEB Ent..-the label who first signed Eminem in the early 90's). King Gordy reminds me of Old Dirty Bastard (Dirt McGirt) meets Mystikal. Eminem is working with King Gordy on new material so expect to see another "8 Mile" experience to happen once again... The motion picture "Bad Boys II" is about to open up nationally & in the meantime make sure you peep the b-side of the 12" soundtrack with Fat Joe & P. Diddy featuring Dre "Girl I'm A Bad Boy" (Bad Boy/Universal). This track is rediculous & gonna hit big both on radio & in the clubs. Believe that!... Storm The Unpredictable has a new album that I'm feeling, "Amalgamation" (Ty-She). Both underground & mainstream hip-hop heads will enjoy this album from start to finish. Debuting out the box in this weeks UNDERGROUND TOP 5, you can contact Storm to get laced online at: Q.STORM@JUNO.COM... The 9th Annual B-Boy Summit is coming to Los Angeles this June 26-29th! Asia One (peep out her off tha chain photo up above) is back & I've got her back this year as the B-Boy Summit promises to be bigger & better than ever! Some of the guest dj's, artists & crews scheduled to appear are: Icy-Ice, Truly OdD, Choc, Ron G, Incredible Breakers, Full Circle, Ground Zero Crew, Flipside Kings, Frank Boogie, Supermat, L.A.
