What's upper! This weeks
NASTY NEWS is gonna be short & sweet since
I'm in the middle of moving. I do want to give big props
to our fam outta WRBB & Landspeed, Papa
D who's been watching our backs (college radio &
internet rap shows) for years when it comes to lacing us
with the phat underground flavas at Landspeed. I'm going
to print an email that Papa D sent to me so you'll know
first hand on what's up with him. Here it is:
Peace
yall...Papa D! here.....I have some important news
regarding myself and Landspeed....as of the end of this
week, I will no longer be working full-time for
Landspeed Records. After years of financial trouble, the
owner of the company is closing the Boston based
office/warehouse and trying to shift the focus to the
New York office. Since I declined to move there a few
months ago, I am getting let go. I will still be doing
radio promotions and working all of the hot shit I have
been for the last 4+ years. I AM NOT GOING AWAY. As far
as y'all are concerned, nothing will be changing. Your
servicing will not be affected. You will still get all
the goodies I have been sending from labels such as High
Times Records, Eastern Conference, Duck Down Records,
Brick Records, Solid Recordings etc. The only Landspeed
products I have serviced since the beginning of the year
are Mobb Deep and 1st Infantry, so it doesn't really
make sense for them to have a full-time college radio
promoter in-house. All of the other joints I have sent,
which is the majority of the stuff I send, are indy
projects from outside labels that I will continue to be
working. It is even quite possible that I will continue
to work all of the Landspeed stuff as well, depending on
wether or not they decide to cut college radio promo
completely. That has yet to be determined. It is no
secret that Landspeed is facing some seriously tough
times financially and I would be surprised if the
company lasted another year. In fact, they now owe my
label, Brick Records, almost $50,000, so I am as unhappy
an employee as you get. Despite this huge amount of
money that is owed to me, I am leaving on as good terms
as possible. I am actually quite happy to be leaving and
am looking forward to breaking free of some of the
constraints that Landspeed's financial status has placed
on me as a promoter and as a record label owner. I am
currently exploring a few options as far as new ventures
go, and when I have decided exactly what I will be doing
I will let you all know. I will 100% still be doing
college radio promo. Let me please repeat and emphasize,
I AM NOT GOING AWAY!!!!! I have a ton of new projects
lined up, including new music from Black Moon, Jedi Mind
Tricks and more. I highly doubt that most of y'all will
even notice the difference…
Until I figure out exactly where my next desk will be,
y'all can continue to contact me thru this email account
as well as at
papad@brickrecords.com. I have also edited the info
below so please update your records. This email will
still be the best way to reach me though…..
I will be in Cali from 8/6 thru 8/13 seeing my beloved
Red Sox battle the Oakland A's among other things. When
I return, I will know exactly what's what so look for
some info from me then….
Thanks to all of y'all that have shown continued
support….
