What's upper! I want to give big props to my Asst.
Rap Editor, DJ Kazzeo (see photo above) from
Salinas' KHDC for holding down the NASTY
NEWS column over the past few weeks. Kazzeo gets
two big thumbs up for keeping our dj's & record label
reps updated with the latest industry & non-industry
news & he did it with excellence! I needed to take a
short break & at the same time relocate to a temporary
living location until I can officially move into the new
home of RapAttackLives.com this Tuesday,
September 9th! Soooooo, school's back in effect & so am
I so let's do this... This is the big week for Avatar
Records as their latest Planet Asia joint
"Summertime In The City" b/w "G's & Soldiers" featuring
Kurupt goes for the number one MOST ADDED
position for college radio! Here's what some of our
loyal Rap Attack dj's had to say about Planet
Asia's latest cut "Summertime In The City": DJ
EarthQuake (Live365.com);
"This is a hot joint. Sounds like an old school sample
and that sample on the beat is hot hot hot!! Planet Asia
comes correct on the flows. "G's & Soldiers" b-side is
hot b. West coast sounding track and they just rip it on
here. Solid release"... Darin Gloe (KDRU-Springfield,
MO); "The track starts off with a dope sample and then
the simple piano loop. As usual Planet Asia outshines
the production, the beat is a bit repetitve but PA makes
up for by spitting fire on the mic. The B-side "G's and
Soldiers" is on a different style then usual Planet
Asia. Dogg Pound affiliate Kurupt assists with a
good verse. I have always thought Kurupt can rhyme he
just needed better beats. Once again the emcees outshine
the production"... ID (KTOB-CA); "God
damn this A side is fuckin killin it! Classic Planet
Asia bustin over a smooth ass beat, but for a summer
song I wish I had this earlier"... Nesto (WODU-VA);
" Aight this joint is dope. I have been a fan of PA
since his first EP release and each release he’s put out
since then have only kept me wanting more from this cat.
His flow is one of the illest out there, and his rhymes
are definitely on point. This beat is sick, and Asia
kills this track with his rhymes. I expect this joint to
make a lot of noise. I know it’s going to get love from
me"... Papa-D (WRBB-Boston); " THE A-SIDE
IS LOVELY, IT WILL GET CONSTANT ROTATION BY ALL OF THE
DJS AT THE STATION..IT'S ASIA AT HIS BEST. .ALTHOUGH I
WAS FEELING KURUPT ON THE FLIP, I JUST DIDNT LIKE THE
BEAT THAT MUCH...IM SURE A FEW DJS WILL LIKE THAT ONE
BETTER THAN SUMMERTIME IN THE CITY" and DJ Raw B
(KUSF-San Francisco); "I'm feeling 'Summertime In
The City". The chorus is catchy and I'm a sucker for
piano loops. My only complaint would be that the quality
of vinyl seems a little low (volume wise). The other
side is cool too. It's good to hear Kurupt talking shit
once again. Production is different which can be
good...but not something I'd bust out while playing in
the clubs. We'll have this one in medium rotation"...
Quannum Leap? Indeed that's the word coming from
Quannum Records as Lyrics Born drops another
heater entitled "Callin' Out" b/w "Cold Call" featuring
Gift Of Gab from Blackalicious. This
record will instantly reminiscent of the "Lady Don't Tek
No" track from a couple years back. A solid offering
from one of the undergrounds finest. To get laced, holla
at the always vibrant Jessica over at Spectre
@ 213.368.1601 and while you have her on the phone,
ask her about the new Aesop Rock featuring
Camp Lo called "Limelighters" on Def Jux...
Have you been missing the rugged and rough, boom bap
style of hip-hop? Look no further. Black Moon is
back on the set with "Stay Real" on Duck Down and
this is blazin! Always known to deliver the realness,
The "Moon" does it again. Make sure to flip it over and
peep out "12" Barrel" featuring Sean Price. For
more info, Papa D is the man to get at. Give him a shout
at
877.969.5403@skytel.com ... The Bay
Area's own Encore is back with the zigga zigga.
No, he's not catching wreck on the turntables, that's
the name of his latest single. "Zigga Zigga" and
"Essentially Yours" were both produced by Jake One
and come to courtesy of the good people at Hiero
Imperium. You want this? Holla at our boy ID to get
serviced via email
id77@aol.com
...
With
the race for Govenor is on here in Cali, I thought I'd
give Jessica outta Spectre to voice her feelings on all
this. " I know it may be completely politically
incorrect for me to be airing my opinions, but tough
shit. Cali has always been a Democratic state. This
whole thing with Arnold is a huge ridiculous scam
set up in order to shift the state's power into the
hands of the Republican Party which if it happens,
could mean very scary things for Cali and the rest of
the United States. REMEMBER - if California
becomes a Republican state, that highly reduces the
chances of getting Bush out of office which is
the scariest thought of them all. The recall was brought
to us by a lone congressman who spent $1.7 million to
gather the relatively small number of signatures
required to initiate a recall. Now, a Hollywood actor is
spending millions of his own money in an attempt to buy
one of the country's highest offices. This is crazy and
it needs to be defeated decisively to prevent more
attacks on our democratic system like this one from
happening. So if you don't sign this petition please at
least make it a point to go out and VOTE NO ON THE
RECALL or vote for Gary Coleman," Peace,
Jess...
