Back at ya this week with another hot track for your ears!

This time we are bringing you a soulful-sounding banger from the minds of
Apollo Brown and Skyzoo.

Coming in with a beautiful symphonic intro, the song “A Couple Dollars”, off of The Easy Truth Album (
Mello Music Group), is about the hardships and struggles all of us go thru every day. Both of these rappers have really pulled me into their music, their lyrics, their vibe for a long time now. This song continues that journey of heartfelt music that they have been putting out for many years!
Go get the album!

Til next week . . .

Peace!! – DJ 3rd Degree...

1 Luv 1 Goal 1 World

1 World International Magazine is a new quarterly underground magazine that includes a free ''1 World'' DVD and ''Timing is Everything'' CD. It’s published by Cesar Garrido-Ramirez (Mr Ceza) out of the Bay Area. This magazine is designed to be a platform for domestic and international independent artists. It is loaded with reviews and dope articles. I got my hands on the first issue thanks to DJ LuvvaJ (KAOS) of Olympia, Washington.

The vivid colors caught my eye right away. As I began turning the pages, I could fee the spirit, energy and love put into the publication. The layout is brilliant, even down to the quality of the paper used.

The first article I read was “Africa Democratic Republic of the Congo: Violence, Hip Hop”, written by
David Hoffman. He reminded me why I fell in love with Hip Hop. The article focuses on the youth and activist members who are turning to Hip Hop to voice their concerns and political uncertainties about the ongoing military corruption and militia violence.

The magazine allows us to get to know our underground artist a little better and introduces us to a slew of new ones. Mr Ceza and team included reviews for over 50 albums, old and new school. I have gone back to the magazine a couple of times realizing that I overlooked an artist and once again, it becomes a brand new read.

The first issue features SAN DIEGO Hip Hop (
Mitchy Slick, Orko, Jayo Felony, Black Mikey, Cricet and many more) in the magazine itself as well as the included DVD and compilation CD! Also featured (cover story and on DVD & CD) is The Jacka R.I.P. More features and exclusives include Killa Tay, Killa Priest, Locksmith, Bronze Nazareth and many more local and from around the world!

I cannot wait for the second issue to come out. Check ‘em out at
1WORLDMAG.COM and follow them on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

Recently the magazine made it down to Austin Texas.
Doug Mecca from Hip Hop Mecca has placed it at the well-known Flamingo Cantina where he holds a monthly dance hall series that is wall-to-wall packed!

Available at fine retailers:
Underdog Clothing and Music, VII Boutique (Pittsburg), Big T’s (Antoch), J-Teez, The Blade (Stockton), Nasty Tattoos (Los Banos), The Gwap Shop, Cali Underground (Modesto), The Hookup (Richmond), Palomino’s Music & NFL Shop (Visalia), The Avenue, Hip Hop One, Paras News Stand, Access Hip Hop, M-Theory Music (San Diego), Music Millennium, 2nd Avenue Records (Portland), Silver Platter, Sonic Boom Records, Everyday Music (Seattle), Rapbay.com, accesshiphop.com, undergroundhiphop.com and 1worldmag.com.

I am excited for others in the industry to take a look at what
Mr Ceza and his team have put together in the spirit of Hip Hop.

Join me in spreading the word about 1WORLD!

The Biggest Podcast
(click pix to read, click to get back)

Stacks Image 503364

During my past 36 years in the biz, I've been interviewed many times over &
I never get tired of sharing my story!
Recently, I did one of the
BEST interviews ever in "The Biggest" podcast show,
hosted by
Miguel Rockwell & Joe Hawkins!
You'll hear how I learned to DJ, who taught me and how I became an on-air radio personality. How I met Mix-A-Lot, my first encounter with Mix at the Boys club with Ed Locke (we were the only 2 Asians in the bldg), who started NASTYMIX Records and where the name NASTYMIX came from.
How I still feel so bad (yes, to this day) about getting kicked out of Seattle Prep high school — I reveal what I did & why it was so wrong — and about losing my mom to cancer when I was 18.
How I got to be on Eazy-E's "Radio," my history with Jerry Heller & The World Class Wrekin Cru, my history at 1250 KFOX in 1980 and the FreshTracks show intro
The Emerald Street Boys to Sir Mix-A-Lot.
Why I got fired at KFOX, how KCMU Rap Attack started in 1988 on the condition that Shockmaster Glen Boyd would be my co-host and the birth of KUBE 93's HotMix on Sat night with NUMBER ONE ratings.
Plus you'll hear rare recordings of me on KFOX & KCMU and two original Quick mixes I did featuring Sir Mix-A-Lot, Eazy-E & NWA and yes, allllllllllllll pre-Serato!
A solid 90 minutes with Seattle's Original MasterMixer & Crazy Pinoy . . . And MORE!

KCMU RAP ATTACK #FBF 1988: I found this on You Tube — a rare recording of two of my very first RAP ATTACK radio shows aired in 1988. The first link is about 37 min long & you can hear my MasterMix around 10min 30 sec into it. Both aired on 90.3FM KCMU, 28 years ago. I was fired from KFOX in April of 1988 as the station was sold & they made it clear to me that the new KFOX would NOT play RAP/Hip Hop anymore. KCMU, based on the UW campus, offered me a Sunday night slot around July of 1988 to keep KFOX FRESHTRACKS on the air. I accepted the offer, went from AM to FM in 3 months & renamed my show KCMU RAP ATTACK. I wanted this show to sound just as good as if you're listening to a Casey Kasem American Top 40 show or any professional sounding show you'd hear on commercial radio. I didn't want to just yell on a mic & say my name in a mix or during the show so I invested $$$ in getting Professional Custom Voice Over Drops. I also made my own Drops & the rest is Seattle Hip Hop HISTORY!
Here it is from 1988 (28 years ago) yours truly,
