DJ FATAL

NAS: HIP-HOP IS ALIVE

He's my Asian brutha from anutha mutha, & I'm talkin' about BumSquad's own, DJ Fatal. Fatal reppin' Southern Cali& Rowland Heights is back with NAS "Hip-Hop Is Alive." Did you read that? "HIP-HOP IS ALIVE."

I asked DJ Fatal what his concept was behind makin' this NAS cd & his response was, "The concept of my Nas mix cd is the idea that Hip-Hop is suppose to be fun.  I feel that people take it too serious now a days.  I had fun making my mixtape which is a compilation of remixes I made over older and newer Nas tracks to give them a new vibe.  Nas made a bold statement when he said "Hip-Hop Is Dead" but as one reaches the end of his album, Nas contradicts himself with an acappella track called "Hope."  I remixed that track for the first track on my mixtape and called it "Hip-Hop Is Alive."  I choose this title because I feel thats what Nas really wanted to say.  He just flipped it for the shock value.  Hip-Hop is indeed alive, we just have a lot more to choose from now.  Of course back in the day Hip-Hop was live and fresh because it was something new... It was the birth but as it grows older, it changes just like everybody else.  So of course Hip-Hop today is not gonna be the same as back in the day.  We cant expect all the new artist today to sound like them back in the day because thats what we love.  The problem is if they did sound like them back in the day we would be quick to hate on them and say they are biting.  We don't need another Afrika Bambaataa, Grand Master Flash, Grandwizard Theodore, Kurtis Blow, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One... etc.  Just be yourself and have fun with it."
