Ok, if you don’t know who Bobby Ray
aka B.o.B is by now then do yourself
a favor and cop this mixtape and you’ll
figure out real quick why this guy has so
much buzz around him. This mixtape is a
precursor to B.o.B’s official album release
on May 25th on Atlantic
Records. On this mixtape, B.o.B has
some help from two ATL icons DJ Drama,
and DJ Sense to help get his music
out to the masses, as well as, guest
appearances from Charles Hamilton, Asher
Roth, Playboy Tre, Burno Mars, and
J.Cole.
There’s something on this mix for everyone.
For those hesitant on giving this a listen
because he’s from the dirty south, do
yourself a favor and throw that thinking out
the window. In my opinion B.o.B is one of
those artist that has all the tools to have
a long career in this industry. He writes,
he produces, and doesn’t keep himself in one
mold. After you listen to this mixtape you
will know exactly what I’m talking about.
From the start of this mixtape you’ll be
surprised to hear Mobb Deep’s “Shook
Ones Pt 2” instrumental coming in while
B.o.B takes shots at himself. I wasn’t
ready to hear B.o.B spittin over this track,
but he holds it down. The next track that
caught my attention was Champion, produced
by B.o.B. It has that sound that some may
be familiar with from B.o.B on his previous
single “In the Sky”. This track has a drum
line vibe on it, and kept me listening.
For that dirty south feel, you’ll enjoy the
“Bet I” track featuring Playboy Tre. It
has that signature low bass roll to the
track, and Playboy Tre rides this beat like
a champ. As I said earlier, this mixtape
has a little something for everyone and the
next track that caught my attention was “Out
of Time”, produced by B.o.B. It has a rock
vibe to it, and reminds me of something you
would have heard on some classic rock
records, or even some Sublime
records. The guitar riffs and rolling hi
hats definitely set the mode of this track.
One of the illest tracks on this mixtape.
I could break down every track on this
mixtape, but if I did that why would you
listen, right? There are many other tracks
on this mixtape that will catch your
attention. Some of my personal favorites
are “B is for B.o.B”, “Fuck the Money
f/Asher Roth”, “The Rain”, “Cool Side”,
“Don’t Feel So Good”, all 3 produced by
B.o.B, “Surprise”, produced by Infinity,
“Fool of Love” f/Charles Hamilton, and
“Nothing for You” featuring Bruno Mars.
That last track is just a teaser by the way
and only runs for a short time, but
definitely wets the appetite for the album.
Do yourself a favor and cop this mixtape at
your favorite blog of choice and rock it in
your whip, iPod, or whatever else you can
blast it out the speakers in. You won’t be
disappointed. Let’s hope B.o.B can break
that cycle of artist putting out dope
mixtapes, but when the album drops it
doesn’t stand up to our expectations!! I
don’t see that happening with B.o.B come May
25th.
