THE 411 UP NORTH
COURTESY OF DIALOG
What’s Upper
North!!
Did you miss me????
Over the last few week’s I have been busy starting
a brand new Record Store in Winnipeg Manitoba
called “The Vinylist”
with my homies John
Smith and Kevin from The Urban Bakery (a local
smoke accessories/low rider bike shop). Keep your
eyes and ear’s open!! Soon enough we’ll have the
website going so you’ll finally have a place to
pick up all your favorite and brand new Canadian
releases!!
Speaking of Canadian
releases I have had a
chance to grab a few compilations fully loaded
with brand new music. Let’s get up into it!
From the label that
brought you Checkmate & Concise and The Defenders
Of The Faith 12”s comes
LongPlay Records out
of Vancouver BC. LP Records has just released
“The Longplayers”
compilation featuring such
emcee’s as Thrust, Frankenstein, Brass
Munk, Obscure
Disorder, Moka Only &
Swollen Members!! A few of these joints have been
previously released before so IF you’ve never had
a chance to hear Marvel’s “Throw This Ball”,
Thrusts “So Fresh” or
Solitair’s “No Doubt” I highly recommend
you grab this double LP.
I ran into
Kamau a couple week’s
ago and he laced me with his new project entitled
“00:01 FIRST”. Apparently K-OS is helping
Kamau put out this
brand new EP so if you’ve felt anything he’s done
you’ll definitely enjoy this
cd! Every song on this EP has a meaning
which is missing in a lot of
hiphop and production is very organic
sounding (all done by Kamau
himself). If you don’t play
cd’s on your
show there is a 12” available with Old Soul b/w
Brainstorming that should be on your tables right
now!! Hit Kamau up at
www.Kamau.ca for your copies today!!
Underworld Records a
subsidiary of Battle Axe Records has just released
“Lyrics Of Fury 2” the
second collection of dope emcee’s like “Swollen
Members, Mr Brady,
Moka Only with the
help of 2mex, Xoloanxinxo,
Abstract Rude, Slug, Son
Doobi & Buc
Fifty. When I first saw this 2 LP in the store my
mouth dropped not knowing of its release and I
quickly picked it up. This record is seriously
made for Bay Area/LA hiphop
lovers and is really needed in a typically “ASOEP
ROCK” emcee sounding country. The track’s to
check for are “Buc
Fifty – Live By The Gun”,
Moka Only “What I Do”, Abstract Rude
“Frisbee” and Swollen Member’s classic 12”
“Paradise Lost” with Tony Da
Skitzo & Mixmaster
Mike.
And
Finally…My beef of the
month!!
“What’s upper” with
Canadian promoters trying to bring in act’s across
the country when they know it won’t happen. In
2003, we all know how the border system works and
generally if someone is known to cause problems
they don’t get across! I can only speak from the
experience of my city but last month we had
Mobb Deep/Noreaga
on a bill and of course they didn’t show up with
the exception of Mussolini and his uncle taking
his place and an excuse of
Noreaga “coughing up blood” before getting
on the airplane after charging people 30 dollars a
ticket. When promoters do sketchy moves like that
it really ruins an honest person’s effort in
throwing a good legit show! Stop doing it!!
On that note…PEACE!!
